#1. Gramona Cava Gran Cuvee, Sparkling Rosé – Spain $26.99 Unfortunately, Gramona is one of the last remaining family-owned cava houses of the Penedes in Spain. This deliciously dry sparkler is made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes and is aged approximately two years in stainless steel tanks. Murcia Al Vino - Spain $29/lb Made from Murcian goat’s milk and aged for 45 days, the rind gets its smooth purple color from bathing twice in red wine. This process gives the characteristic color as well as imparts a strong floral bouquet. This cheese is planed and served upon an English cucumber topped with Jeff’s Kula Onion Peppered Jelly. Our interpretation of namasu!
#2. Domaine de Fontsainte, Gris de Gris Rosé – France $19.99 A crystalline salmon color with amethyst tints. Fine separate legs run slowly down the glass. This expressive wine has a nose of raspberry, cherry and freshly picked strawberries-followed by tropical aromas such as pineapple and mango. With considerable freshness, the density and richness of the fruit tango with the acidic vitality. Superbly balanced, this is an extremely cravable wine! Halloumi - Greece $9.95/each This firm and mild Cypriot cheese is quite popular in Greece. It’s been grilled in a dry nonstick skillet, drizzled with Spanish olive oil, then placed on a bed of fresh Kula greens with a medley of fresh papaya and caperberries.
#3. Jaboulet Côtes du Rhône Parallèle 45 – Tain L’Hermitage, France $18.99 Made up of 50% Grenache, 40% Cinsault, and 10% Syrah, this wine has floral and crushed red cherry aromas. This wine shows full-bodied, ripe, mineral-driven fruit on the palate, with tangy undertones and a note of white pepper. The wine has a fresh, lip-smacking fruit character and an easygoing nature that makes it easy to pair with a variety of dishes. Parrallèle 45 has acidity and tannins that are ripe but firm; this is no wimpy rosé. This hearty rosé is a winner! Garlic Fromager Butter $19.99/lb What do you do with cheese gone bad? Make butter! Fromager d’Affinois, very ripe whirled with roasted garlic, and Martell VSOP cognac. This luscious spread is in a smoked turkey and black pepper and sea salt twistini roll.
#4. Uvaggio Barbera Rosato – Lodi, California $16.99 This medium bodied rosé is rich and complex. The Barbera grapes used for this wine originate in Italy, but are grown in California. When they are made as a Rosato (or pink wine) the fruit expression includes berry, cherry, guava, and strawberry; fresh flavors that are enhanced by its vibrant acidity-making the pairings for this wine countless. Taleggio – Italy $22/lb Taleggio is a semi-soft, washed-rind cheese from the Valtaleggio region in northern Italy, near Lombardy. It is characteristically aromatic yet mild in flavor and features tangy, meaty notes with a fruity finish. The texture of the cheese is moist-to-oozy with a very pleasant melt-in-your-mouth feel. We hooked up the Taleggio with thinly sliced bresaola, a wine and black pepper cured beef upon our favorite “Italian surfboards”.
#5. Pirineros Rosado – La Boquera, Spain $19.99 This rosé is made up of 50% Merlot and 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, with 10% of the cabernet fermented in American oak. The result is deep pink in color, fresh yet creamy berry fruit flavors and a mouth-feel reminiscent of lighter red wines. Mascarpone - Italy $9.95/each Mascarpone is a triple-crème cheese, made from a generally low-fat (25%) content fresh cream. It's made from the milk of cows that have been fed special grasses filled with fresh herbs and flowers -- a special diet that creates a unique taste often described as "fresh and delicious." Mascarpone is used in regional dishes of Lombardy, where it is a specialty. It is Milky-white in color and is thick & creamy which is easily spreadable. We melded this yummilicious cheese with Jeff’s Kula Strawberry butter and fresh Kula strawberries…wow!
