What a Year!

2006 was a great year and the biggest accomplishment was the success of Cheese Olympics, which will become an annual event raising funds for the Kihei Community Association.  The KCA is continuously making positive strides for our community.  Big congratulations to David Frazier, President of the KCA for being Person of the Year 2006!  It was an honor to work with him on the Cheese Olympics!  Go David!

New Faces in the Cheese Case

Roomkaas from the Netherlands definitely got invited to a lot of holiday parties this season!  This double cream gouda is made of cow's milk and is rich, supple, and melts-in-your-mouth-good!  A great hook up with the Charles Krug Merlot.

Chaubier is a semi-soft cow and goat's milk cheese from France with a mild washed rind.  He's a little "whiffy," but very mellow due to the creaminess of the cow's milk.  He gets his spunkiness from the acidity of the goat's milk.  This softy has lots of character and can go with red or white wine, and of course, bubbles!  Remember...when in doubt, all cheese loves bubblies!

In the Barrel

Don't panic, we've got organic!  Luzon Verde from Jumilla, Spain is 100% Monstrell, made from all organic grapes.  This red is light to medium bodied, with soft tannins and ripe, spicy fruit.  A steal of a deal at $9.99!  Try it with Garrotxa or Murcia al Vino cheeses from Spain!

The Ladybug Red and White are made by Lolonis winery from Mendocino, CA.  The varietals in the white blend are French Colombard, Semillon, Chenin Blanc and a touch of Chardonnay from vines with an average age of 40 years. The red consists of Zinfandel, Carignane, Merlot and Cabernet with an average vine age of around 40 years old. Both are extremely lively and fun to drink!  White is $15.99 and the red is $13.99.  Try both today with Organic Lambchopper, a sheep cheese from the Netherlands!
