The Big Cheese (AKA Ann Tuomela) will be travelling to the mainland to bring back all kinds of goodies and new ideas!  She'll be hitting Chicago first to attend the 9th Annual Fancy Food Show at McCormick Place May 6th- 8th.

After that she will be whisked away on a food tour extravaganza with fellow foodie, Rick Cooper, owner of one of Chicago's top restaurants, Avec.

Next, off to Philly to DiBruno Brothers' Market.  Right in the heart of central Philly, this gourmet shop was a stop for the Big Cheese three years ago when they just opened at this location.

Finally, "Start spreadin' the news..." The Big Cheese in the Big Apple!  Here, she'll stop at Murray's Cheese Shop and Artisanal Fromagerie and Bistro.

While she's gone, her little mice will be supervising the cheese case and making room for new things to come!  Don't forget to check out the sale!

New Brew!

We are now carrying Maui Brewing Co. Beers!

"Handcrafted Ales and Lagers Brewed with Aloha"

This beer is locally brewed, canned, and packaged right here on Maui!

Bikini Blonde Lager: so fresh and clean with a bold malt flavor!

Big Swell IPA: smooth, creamy, and a pleasant hoppy finish.

Coconut Porter: (A Who Cut the Cheese Favorite) six varieties of malted barley, hops, and hand-toasted coconut...yum!

We also have a variety pack for those of you who want it all!

Want to see how it's done?  This Saturday, May 5th, the guys from Maui Brewing Co. are going to be canning beer at the brewery all day and would love to see you there!  They will be there from 6 am until they're done.

Featured Cheese and Wine

Featured Cheese in the Cheese Case:

Mahon, from the island of Menorca, is one of the few cow's milk cheeses made in Spain. Mahon boasts a certain sharpness, and its lemony, salty flavors evince the rural Mediterranean seascape. Its rind contains a hard, crumbly cheddar-like texture and darkens as the wheels age. At peak, Mahon is tangy, intense and delicious.

Featured Wine in the Cellar:

Carchelo, from Agapito Rico's high-altitude arrid vineyards comes this Spanish stunner made of Jumilla Monastrell (AKA Mourvedre).  "An exuberant and versatile red wine equally suited for casual entertaining or to accompany the finest cheeses and grilled meats."

Now for a limited time get 1/3 of a pound of Mahon and a bottle of Carchelo for only $18.99!!

True or False

Munster is an English cheese that isn't pasteurized.

Answer:

False

Muenster cheese is an American cheese, only vaguely related to the French Munster cheese.  Most Muenster available today is made in factories using pasteurized cow's milk, but some of the smaller, more traditional productions still use unpasteurized milk.  Muenster cheese is a smooth textured cheese with an orange rind that was originally produced in France and then in the monasteries of Germany. In fact, “muenster” is from the Latin word “monasterium”. This washed -rind cheese is made from cows’ milk. Muenster cheese can range from having a mild taste with no odor to a strong flavor with a pungent aroma depending on the age of the cheese.
