#1. Siblings, Australia – 2005 $22.99 Crisp Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon (52%/48% respectively) offers characteristics of freshly cut grass, flint, and soft sweet citris in a clean medium-bodied, French Style wine. The Leeuwin Estate is in the coastal town of Margaret River of Western Australia. Fourme Au Sauternes – France $23*/lb A variety of Fourme d’Ambert blue cheese (pasteurized cow’s milk) and ripened with white Sauternes then aged for two months. Sauternes is a region of Bordeaux known for its sweet white wines. Primarily made with the Semillon grape, Sauternes has accents of fruit and vanilla, with smooth and creamy texture. Served in a lettuce wrap with chopped Marcona almonds and apricots. Specially priced for this tasting today only (regular price $46/lb).
#2. Murphy Goode Fume Blanc, Sonoma, California – 2003 $12.99 Refreshing fruit flavors – citrus, nectarines and white peaches – with an aromatic hint of lemongrass. A blending component of 6% Sauvignon Musque adds floral components and rounds the wine's texture. A small portion of the blend is barrel oak fermented to add texture. Tumelo – Oregon $37/lb A washed rind, semi-soft, unpasteurized goat cheese from Central Oregon. Paired with grilled Italian eggplant, a touch of Laudemio Olive Oil, and seasoned with freshly ground lemon pepper. Sandimais breadsticks on the side.
#3. Giesen, New Zealand – 2006 $16.99 Light & crisp, with medium acidity. Good fruit density, more citrusy than herbal, with lemon & tangerine notes. From Wairau Plains of Marlborough on the South Island of New Zealand. Feta – Greece $14/lb Greek spinach & feta spanakopita dressed with imported Greek Sheep’s Milk Feta and homemade Tzatziki sauce.
#4. Pomelo, California – 2006 $13.99 A Unique Sauvignon Blanc with hints of grapefruit and floral nuances along with honeysuckle and vanilla. The name comes from a giant citrus fruit native to Malaysia thought to be a relative of the grapefruit. Fromage Au Poivre Vert – France $18/lb A smooth & creamy textured cow’s milk cheese with green pepper based by a mini-toast cracker.
#5. Las Brisas, Spain – 2005 $12.99 A wine that comes from Rueda, a famous wine region in the heart of North-Central Spain. Medium-bodied with a balance of fresh citrus fruit, racy ripe flavors, and minerality Can Pujol – Spain $32/lb A unique soft-ripened goat cheese invented and produced by Josep of Can Pujol. From the heart of the Barcelones Mts in Catalunya. Has a white bloomy mold rind, very delicate and sweet with a tangy finish. Served with star fruit, kiwi, and pinenuts.
