Anecdotes ...

In 1841, Scotland's James McIntyre (aka "the Chaucer of cheese") emigrated to Canada. An undertaker by day, he wrote poetry in his spare time, selecting as his specialty... cheese. Notable among his poems are such gems as "Ode on the Mammoth Cheese" and "Hints to Cheese Makers." Though critics generally agree that McIntyre lacked (the famously bad poet) William McGonagall's versatility, some defended McIntyre's primacy as bard of the bad. "He was every bit as bad as McGonagall," the mayor of Ingersoll, Ontario once declared, "and a lot less talented."
